Power Lunch

Miles today: 6.19, 3 mile (27 min) run in the morning, 3.19 miles interval training on the treadmill

This morning I had all intentions of getting up and doing a 5-6 mile tempo run. Last night, Larry so sweetly offered to run with me in the morning, so I wouldn't have to go by myself in the dark. I'm not scared to run on the mean streets of Naples, but it is always nice to have company, especially when said company is faster and helps you up your game. I should have known better. As soon as the alarm went off, "Wait, how far are we going? Can we just run 2 or 3 miles instead?" I love him so much, but this was totally predictable. Not a big morning person. We ran a quick, easy 3 at a 9 min pace and got home in time for him to get to work early. I knew I had a long lunch so it worked out. At 11 am, I raced home, threw on my running clothes, and headed to the gym.

Now normally I despise the treadmill. I would rather run outside in 90 degree heat and sweat to death than run more than 4 miles on a treadmill. I know a ton of people that can sit on a treadmill for hours and grind out miles. I wish I could. I usually get so bored that I decide I hate every single song on my phone and Pandora and want to die. I'm hoping I mature and grow out of this at some point. Today though, I wanted to get some intervals in and the treadmill happens to be relatively good for that.  For 30 minutes I do one minute at 6 mph, 2 min at 7 or 7.5 mph with a 0.5 incline. Not the hardest or fastest intervals, but got the job done. I got home with about 20 minutes get dressed and put together a random, but somehow awesome lunch.

Can't forget a lil' DC
Red Quinoa Fall Salad:

1/2 cup cooked, warm red quinoa
2 cups shredded romaine lettuce
3 tablespoons toasted pine nuts
1 handful craisins
goat cheese
balsamic vinegar glaze

Mix everything together and drizzle with balsamic glaze. I don't generally measure anything. Consider it all an estimation.

I made it back to the office with about 3 minutes to spare. Unfortunately, our kitchen and bedroom/bathroom took a big hit during the lunch rush. It looks like a small tornado went through. It will be a nice surprise for Larry to come home to later. Oops.
