There has been a Flocking!

Miles yesterday: 4.1 miles, easy
Miles in 2013: 192.96 miles

Yesterday was complete chaos and by the time Larry and I got home it was close to 9 PM. Our living room looks like a bomb went off and I had 3000 things on my to-do list. I did exactly none of them, made a kickass dinner, and promptly went to bed. But I don't want to talk about my laundry, I want to talk about Monday night.

When I am not running or boozing it up after a race, I do try to get involved and have been part of the local Girls on the Run for the past year. (I have mentioned this before, remember you can always donate your spare nickles to Girls on the Run Soulmates here!) Girls on the Run is an amazing program for girls, aged 8-13. There are 2 sessions per school year, consisting of twice weekly running practices. The running practices incorporate running (duh) and self esteem building, leadership, and positive self image. The program culminates in a 5K that all the girls, their "running buddies", and coaches run together. I am especially excited to be a part of GOTR, because my running buddy is at the elementary school I went to. (about 1000 years ago)

This year we are having the greatest GOTR fundraiser in the history of fundraising. Flocking!

Basically, someone donates $30-$50 (depending on how large a flock) and we sneak around town, usually at night (and dressed in black for a lil dramatic flair...) and put a ton of flamingos on their front lawn.

Then they have the option to give a small donation to have us remove the flamingos, or can give a larger donation and we will flock a house of their choice. And so on. (Or if they are really no fun, we will just take down the flamingos and go home all sad) But awesome, right?!

See - appropriate black and pink flocking clothes

When we were setting up, 3 cars all stopped and asked about it and thought it was a great idea. Which it is, so.... if you live in SW Florida and want to flock someone, get in touch! More information is at the Girls on the Run website. Or you can just donate to my page - I am raising $$$ by running the Nashville Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon AND the Chicago Marathon. That is 39.3 miles of fun!

Ok enough asking for spare change. Despite all the work, catching up, etc, the past two days, I did get in a short recovery run.

Please don't look at the disaster behind me.
This is what my cold weather running attire looks like. Sorry Northern friends.

I ran a slow 4 miles and felt ok, but my knee was a little achy so I spent some quality time icing as well.

Yes those are peas and corn. Best ice packs around.

I am going to try to get a 6-7 mile run in today or tomorrow, plus try to fit a little yoga and possibly a Group Power class in. We will just have to see how that goes...

Is it Friday yet??
