Miles in 2013: 379.18 miles

My heart is happy. Yesterday was Naples first ever Women's only 5K, the first annual Run Chick Run. We have been organizing it for the past few months and after a little chaos, last minute changes, and nerves, it went great! We raised a bunch of money for Girls on the Run of Collier County.

Larry and I got up at 4:30 AM to fit in a little run before we had to get to the race to set up. I mapped a route through the Vineyards Community. It was really dark when we got started, but a gorgeous starlit run. The morning wasn't too warm or humid. We didn't chat much, but it was so nice to be able to get back to our Saturday morning runs. At 7 miles I was feeling great. I could have run another few miles, but it was time to start setting up.

Thanks to Jason at Crackle Graphics for the awesome tanks!!

And all our great sponsors!

A group of friends from Naples Women's Juniors Club came to help out before the race.

The race was not chip timed and a bunch of women ran their very first 5Ks. The energy was great. A number of girls from Girls on the Run ran, as well as women of all ages. A couple of women from the Endurance Sisterhood led the runners through the route.

The race started at 7:35 AM.

The first girl crossed the finish shortly after 22 minutes for a great run. The medals were absolutely perfect.

Everyone really had a strong run and we cheered on finishers until the very end. I am so proud of every woman that crossed that finish line and proud to be a part of planning this event. It really was everything we had envisioned, a warm, supportive, non-competitive atmosphere, celebrating the incredible strength of women.

Such a good group to work with!

Mom and I. She had a great run!

Some of my closest friends even came out to run with their daughters. So special. Thanks to everyone who came and ran and all those who have supported us this season!!
