Hooters To Hooters Half Marathon 2014

Miles yesterday: 5.0 miles
Miles in 2014: 345.33 miles

Oh I am freaking loving this little cool spell in late March in south Florida! (Sorry to everyone dealing with snow this week...) I know the days of long sleeved running are probably gone, but it was nice to have one yesterday morning. It also helped to have a good friend to catch up with during the chilly miles.
So now I need to do some major catching up. On March 2nd, I ran the Hooters to Hooters Half Marathon for the second year in a row. This year definitely warmer and not rainy. A ton of people from Naples drive up to Ft. Myers for this race. (Bus next year, anyone??) I had a great race last year and loved the course.
The race starts at the Hooters in downtown Ft. Myers and heads into a winding residential neighborhood of beautiful, old homes along the waterfront. The first 5-6 miles usually flies by through those winding streets. You head out of the residential area and into the Riverfront District and head towards the bridge into North Ft. Myers. The bridge is around mile 7/8. This is no small bridge, but the wind wasn't bad this year. Runners go over the bridge and then immediately turn around. It's always a good spot to see friends running.  I don't know why but going up the first time is always harder than the second time. After the bridge is pretty much a straight shot back to the start, other than running around the mall at the end.
This year I was lucky enough to have a good friend run with me.
We chatted the whole race and she made it only about 1000 times better. We kept an even, easy pace for most of the race. (Minus a quick bathroom stop around mile 9). I struggled a little going up the bridge the first time, but other than that, had no issues. We finished strong and I had energy to spare. All the food and free drinks at the finish didn't hurt either.
Hooters throws one of the best post race parties around. Free beer and wings. Yes please! (uh, minus the wings, but lots of ranch and celery!)
Today is also ONE MONTH from the Big Sur Marathon. I think I am counting the minutes to get on that plane headed for CA. Excited is the understatement of the year!
